Close to most tourist attractions including Hexham Abbey, Cragside, Wallington House Walled Garden and Estate, Beamish Museum, Alnwick Castle and garden, Gibside, Tanfield Railway, Bamburgh Castle and Hadrians Wall. These are just a few interesting places to visit.
Entry to Hexham Abbey is free but if you want a guided tour there is a small charge. In the Abbey you can see the anglo saxon crypt. Stone stairs takes you back 1300 years into passageways and rooms still intact from St Wilfreds oriental church. See the Bishops throne which dates from the 7th century. There is even a roman tombstone which is still intact. These are just a few interesting sites in the Abbey.
When you're in Hexham you can also visit the Market place which is better known as the shambles, a place where meat was butchered and sold. Markets have been held here since medieval times. Visit the Moothall, the medieval bailiff could keep an eye on any troublesome townspeople from this building. Visit the old Goal, this was the first purpose built prison in England. These are just a few fantastic sites to visit, come and visit the beauty of Northumberland and see for yourself.
