Tumblins has been reconstructed to be as ecologically efficient as possible - the house is heated by air source heat pumps, the water is pumped up from springs in the valley below and we store all the rainwater for use in the garden and lake. Hot water is heated by solar panels and electricity is generated by photo-voltaic cells.

During the past eight years we have created a three acre garden with an emphasis upon unusual plants and supporting wildlife. The house faces south-east and is about 600 feet above sea level, giving us far-reaching views out over the Stour Valley. On a clear day we can even see the sun shining on the sea at Old Harry Rocks and in daylight only a few houses are visible within 25 miles.

The historic Georgian town of Blandford Forum, rebuilt in 1731, is only three miles away, and we are within easy access of Kingston Lacy, Milton Abbas, Sherborne, Bryanston School and Knighton House School. Festivals in the immediate area include Plush Music, Dorset Opera, Chalke Valley History Fair, Sturminster Newton Cheese Festival, the Oak Fair at Stock Gaylard, the Great Dorset Steam Fair and Dorset Arts Week.

Dinner en famille is offered to guests if arranged in advance and we specialise in local produce as well as relying on vegetables grown organically in our own garden.
