Lincolnshire is a peaceful and unspoilt county and Holly Cottage is on the edge of a pretty village within the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is little known but has fine scenery of hills, valleys, streams and grassland and an abundance of wildlife. From the higher points there are long-distant views and in the valley bottoms nestle small villages, often with beautiful churches and some good pubs.

A visit to the historic city of Lincoln is a must, with its splendid Cathedral. Lincoln Castle has had its wall-walk restored and this affords fine views over the city and of the west front of the Cathedral close by. The prison and chapel here are also fascinating, as is the copy of the Magna Carta.

Less than half an hour's drive east from Holly Cottage takes you to the Coast, with the honey-pot resorts of Skegness and Mablethorpe, quieter resorts of Sandilands and Anderby Creek or deserted areas of beach with golden sands in between and the superb National Nature Reserve at Gibraltar Point.

Other places of interest in the area are market towns such as Louth, Horncastle and others, many of which have an old-fashioned charm and still have independent shops. Aviation Heritage is a big draw to the area, notably East Kirkby Aviation Heritage Centre and The Battle of Britain Flight at Coningsby.
